FAQ

People have been asking us the same questions time and again. We appreciate the interest hence we put up this FAQ Corner for those who would like to ask us something but are either too shy or busy to do so. If you have any other questions please e-mail us at webmaster@sfogszero.com or use our online contact form.

What is SFOGSzeRo.com?

The term S-F-O-G-S is an abbreviation for Singapore's First Online Ghost Stories. The additional 'zeRo' is still secret. SFOGSzeRo.com is an online community consisting of supporters and enthusiasts, all interested in the paranormal and unexplained. Having a website that operates as a huge database of ghost stories, true experiences, pictures and articles, SFOGSzeRo.com is a "paper-free" online platform that virtually allows anyone to express themselves. Beyond that, we also organize expeditions and outings to various places in Singapore including its offshore islands.

Why are there so many grammatical errors in the stories? Why are they not edited?

Much editing and censorship would contradict the creative ethic which SFOGSzeRo.com has been promoting all the while. But we do take into account stories that are considerably vulgar. These stories usually include;

  • perverse essays with no particular direction
  • vulgar/perversion/irrelevant content;
  • and the like

A story that is categorised as vulgar may not necessarily be left out completely. ALL stories received will be carefully considered and screened before appearing on the web site. We also make minor adjustments (for instance that little but obvious spelling mistake or that incomprehensible sentence). Essentially, we believe in preserving the authenticity and originality of the stories submitted to us.

Why are there so many stories from really young people, many of which don't make any sense?

For us, it is encouraging to know that children as young as 9 years old are Internet Literate and interested enough in our web site to actually send us a story. A 9-year old has as much right in submitting a story, in his/her own expressionism, as a 29-year old. While it is true that most stories by the children are riddled with grammatical errors, it is ALSO true that we receive stories with similar mistakes by adults. :)

Another factor is that we as neutral readers must always recognize that perception and imagination levels differ between age groups. While it is also true that some of the stories may seem to be nonsensical, we should not discount the possibility that an event reflected in a story may bear some form of significance to the writer. It is after all, a story … It could be a legend, myth, fact or even fantasy.

I last submitted a story a month ago. Why isn't it out on the site yet? Why do the stories take forever to be uploaded?

We receive literally dozens of stories almost every day. Every story submitted to us is put into a virtual queue. These stories are then read-through, edited (if necessary), and then uploaded onto the site. It is a long queue and we can't possibly review all stories submitted on the very same day they are sent in. But rest assured, if we receive the story and if it makes sense, it'll be up on the site eventually. Patience is a virtue. :)

How do you prove that the story is real or fake?

We don't. That again is left to individuals to decide. Besides, we are all less likely to believe an odd truth than a common lie, don't we? :)

Are all the pictures posted on the site genuine? How do we know if it is genuine or fake? Where were the pictures sourced?

The authenticity of most material submitted to SFOGSzeRo.com is left preserved, and that includes the pictures. We leave it up to YOU to decide if it is real or a hoax. We get the pictures from various sources; i.e. paraphernalia, e-mails from fans, etc. Some of the pictures submitted may even have been printed or published elsewhere.

The Pictures section does not seem to be updated as regularly as, say, the Stories section. Why?

This is partly due to lack of contributions. Hence we encourage everyone out there to send in any pictures/graphics of ghosts, UFOs and other paranormal events or sightings.

A few pictures posted on the site seem strangely familiar; as though they have been put up somewhere before.

Like we said, some of the pictures may have been published elsewhere. That does not mean that we used someone else's picture and claimed credit for it. The sender of a picture may have spread it all around the cyber world, and we are just one of the lucky ones to receive it.

Above all, we want SFOGSzeRo.com to be a collection of paranormal stuff in Singapore; a main database of pictures, stories etc. For instance, you can't remember where you saw this interesting picture. You tried searching the Net but you simply can't find it. The solution to your problem - SFOGSzeRo.com :)

There does not seem to be enough ghost pictures, especially from Singapore. Why?

Again, lack of contributions is one of the reasons. We also have to take into account that ghosts do not pose for pictures, unlike us humans :) One cannot simply capture a ghost on film by a mere click of a camera. You need to have the luck too. We humbly request that readers submit whatever they can.

We are the first in Singapore to be doing what we are doing. Amongst all, we are the first to have a large number of ghost stories compiled online. But the Stories, Articles, Pictures etc. are not only restricted to Singapore. As mentioned previously, SFOGSzeRo.com aims to be a huge collection/main database of paranormal and unexplained phenomenon, both locally and all over the globe. SFOGSzeRo.com is a product of Singaporeans, FOR Singaporeans :)
